Anglican Prayers for The World Cup in South Africa

Not everyone is a sports fan, in spite of Episcopal Cafe’s baseball-centric proselytizing, so the Anglican Church in South Africa has prayers for World Cup fans, and prayers for those who put up with World Cup fans.

Prayers for all those involved in the World Cup

Lord of all the nations, who played the cosmos into being,

guide, guard and protect all who work or play in the World Cup.

May all find in this competition a source of celebration,

an experience of common humanity and

a growing attitude of generous sportsmanship to others.

Amen.

God of the nations, who has always called his people to be a blessing for the world, bless all who take part in the World Cup.

Smile on South Africa in her hosting,

on the nations represented in competition and

on those who travel to join in the party.

Amen.

A prayer for those simply not interested

Lord, as all around are gripped with World Cup fever,

bless us with understanding,

strengthen us with patience and

grant us the gift of sympathy if needed.

Amen.

Farewell Moms, Hello Dads

As May ends, we say goodbye to our mothers’ photos, which have been on display at the Mary shrine in the sanctuary. Be sure to pick up your photos this Sunday.

We’ll bring in photos of our fathers for June – especially to remember dads who are no longer with us for Fathers’ Day.

The Food Pantry Needs You!

Food items urgently needed for St Nicholas’ twice-monthly food pantry include apple juice, canned corn, and spaghetti sauce. Paper products and toiletries are always in demand, too. We can always use help with re-stocking or making pickup runs for large donations, too.
